Frequently Asked Questions

Can I hire just a DOP/1st AC/2nd AC?

Absolutely. Whether you need a single crew member or a full camera department, we can tailor the package internally to match your production’s size and needs.

Where are your camera crews based?

Our core network is London-based, but we regularly crew shoots across the UK and internationally. All of the Moonshiners are vetted, experienced, and known throughout the industry for reliability.

What are your Terms and Conditions regarding rates?

Hours & Overtime:

A standard working day is 10 working hours plus 1 hour for lunch, counted from call time to wrap. We follow the APA crew terms (effective 1 September 2026). The hourly rate is the day rate divided by 10.

Overtime is 1.5x the hourly rate, charged in 30-minute blocks. Between midnight and 5am, overtime is 3x the hourly rate.

Night Shoots:

A night shoot is any shoot with a call time between 5pm and 5am. Every hour from call to wrap is charged at 2x the hourly rate, with a minimum of 10 hours. Nothing is added on top of the night rate.

Weekends & Bank Holidays:

Saturday: 1.5x the hourly rate for every hour worked, minimum 10 hours. Sunday and bank holidays: 2x the hourly rate for every hour worked, minimum 10 hours. Rates are never added together.

Travel & Expenses:

Parking, tolls, congestion and ULEZ charges, crew meals (where not provided on set), accommodation and train or taxi fares are charged at cost.

Locations outside the M25 (from our London base and back) and travel between filming locations, including inside the M25, incur an 80p per mile mileage charge (we drive uneconomical commercial vehicles).

If one-way travel to the location is more than 2.5 hours, a travel day fee of 60% of each crew member's day rate applies.

Deposit & Payment:

To confirm a shoot we take a £250 or £1,000 deposit by payment link, depending on the size and logistics of the job. The deposit is non-refundable and is taken off your final invoice. If we cancel, we refund it.

Some clients pay the remainder before we transfer the final footage at the end of the shoot day; we will tell you when we confirm the booking. Prices are before VAT.

Cancellation:

48 hours or more before call time: no fee on the remainder, but the deposit is lost. Between 24 and 48 hours: 50% of the booking fee, or the deposit if higher. Less than 24 hours, same day or no-show: 100%.
