Frequently Asked Questions about the ARRI LF:

Do I need a certified camera assistant to use the ALEXA LF?

While not required, it is strongly recommended. The ALEXA 35 is a high-end cinema system designed for professional crews. Moonshine Film can supply experienced 1st ACs and 2nd ACs to ensure a smooth shoot.

What media does the ARRI ALEXA MINI LF use?

It records to Codex Compact Drives. These support high data-rate ARRIRAW and ProRes workflows. Drives and readers can be added to any rental package.

What lenses are compatible with the ALEXA LF?

The Mini LF uses an LPL mount, giving you access to full-frame cinema lenses like ARRI Signature Primes, large-format zooms, and almost all PL lenses when using the LPL–PL adapter.

ARRI provides a full lens compatibility overview, and CineD’s coverage tests show how different lenses perform on large-format sensors.

If you’re unsure, Moonshine Film can advise on lens compatibility.

Does the ALEXA LF work for low-light shoots?

Yes. The full-frame sensor produces exceptionally clean images, especially around EI 1600.

Independent testers such as Newsshooter conducted detailed low-light performance reviews, and ARRI provides official LF sensor behaviour documentation that shows how well it holds shadow detail in dark environments.

Can I shoot anamorphic on the ALEXA LF?

Yes — the Mini LF supports anamorphic shooting with lenses that can cover the LF sensor or specific anamorphic recording modes. ARRI explains this in their anamorphic and large-format shooting guides, and CineD’s anamorphic coverage tests show which anamorphic sets fully cover or vignette.

Optional add-ons for our ARRI ALEXA MINI LF Camera Package:

Need a wireless focus system, onboard monitor, or full lighting package? Or alternative camera such as our ARRI ALEXA 35?

Let us know during booking, we can build a custom solution to suit your shoot.

What do other filmmakers think of this camera?

Filmmakers consistently praise the ALEXA Mini LF for its cinematic full-frame image, colour science, and on-set reliability. Across cinematography discussions, users often describe it as one of the most trusted high-end digital cinema cameras available. One filmmaker on Cinematography Reddit put it simply:

“The Mini LF just delivers. The colour, the highlight rolloff, the latitude, it’s why so many high-end productions choose it.”

Many cinematographers describe the Mini LF as a camera that “never surprises you in a bad way”, meaning it behaves predictably, grades beautifully, and maintains consistency across demanding shoots.
