Frequently Asked Questions about the DJI Ronin 4D:

What makes the DJI Ronin 4D different from other cinema cameras?

The Ronin 4D combines a cinema-grade full-frame camera, 4-axis stabilisation, LiDAR autofocus, and wireless transmission into one integrated unit.

DJI explains the system design in their official Ronin 4D Technology Overview, highlighting why it replaces a full gimbal build.

Do I need to balance the Ronin 4D like a standard gimbal?

No. The Ronin 4D requires no traditional balancing, making it far faster to deploy than a Ronin 2 or Movi system.

CineD demonstrates this ease of setup in their hands-on Ronin 4D field review.

What lenses are compatible with the Ronin 4D?

The camera uses DJI’s DL mount, but supports several mounts via adapters, at Moonshine Film we have E-Mount & PL-DZ Mounts.

DJI provides a full list in their Ronin 4D lens compatibility guide.

Is the Ronin 4D good for low-light shooting?

Yes, the X9 full-frame sensor delivers excellent low-light performance thanks to its Dual Native ISO architecture.

Newsshooter’s testing highlights how clean the image is at higher exposure indexes in their Ronin 4D deep-dive review.

Can the Ronin 4D be used for professional production work?

Absolutely. It’s frequently used for  Commercials, high-end YouTube content, documentaries, and certain narrative productions such as Adolescence.

Its internal ProRes RAW, wireless monitoring ecosystem, and 4-axis stabilisation make it a credible A-cam or B-cam.

DJI showcase real productions using the system in their Ronin 4D case studies.

Let us know during booking, we can build a custom solution to suit your shoot.

What do other filmmakers think of this camera?

Filmmakers consistently praise the ALEXA Mini LF for its cinematic full-frame image, colour science, and on-set reliability. Across cinematography discussions, users often describe it as one of the most trusted high-end digital cinema cameras available. One filmmaker on Cinematography Reddit put it simply:

“The Mini LF just delivers. The colour, the highlight rolloff, the latitude, it’s why so many high-end productions choose it.”

Many cinematographers describe the Mini LF as a camera that “never surprises you in a bad way”, meaning it behaves predictably, grades beautifully, and maintains consistency across demanding shoots.
